In the past few days since the media release of Femi Fani-Kayode's opinion piece- The Bitter Truth About The Igbo - there has been an intense war of words on twitter and other internet sites among commentators. The trend expectedly has been Igbo versus Yoruba.
First, the Lagos State Government callously dumped so-called 'destitutes' at 3.20 a.m in Onitsha, Anambra. Then Ex-Abia Governor, Kalu Orji demanded an apology from Lagos State Governor Fashola for the action and he tagged Lagos as "no-man's-land". Then came Mr Fani-Kayode with his piece that has stirred up so much inter-tribal hatred.
Though each man is entitled to freedom of speech, our utterances should be seasoned with maturity and thoughtfulness, especially an ex-government official, a governor or an ex-Minister for that matter. Mr. Fani-Kayode's piece should be seen for what it is- it is Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode's personal opinion. I do not think anybody has been appointed as the mouthpiece for Yorubas or Igbos. The same goes for Orji Kalu- just his own opinion.
Somebody once advocated that political office holders and appointees should undergo psychiatric and psychological evaluation prior to their appointment- I believe the person is correct.
Former Minister of Education Mrs Oby Ezekwesili has asked relevant government agency to take in her former colleague, Femi Fani-Kayode and stop him from writing further hateful speeches. See below, Oby Ezekwesili's tweet and Fani-Kayode's response.
