The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), on Saturday announced plans to construct a massive 3 Km by 3 Km square auditorium. This announcement has triggered outrage among some Nigerians who call the huge project a waste. (See defending argument below)
This disclosure was made by the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, during the Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp in Mowe, Ogun state.
The revered cleric added that the new auditorium would be built at the mission’s camp ground at km 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
He noted that the existing auditorium, built in year 2000 with a capacity to sit one million people, could no longer accommodate millions of people who attended service.
The leader of the largest Pentecostal church in the world, while appealing for support towards the project, said that the construction would be completed before the 62nd Convention in August 2014.
For critics who say the church is not doing enough, you can verify the claims (not by 9jaFlave) below:
1. The RCCG current auditorium designed with capacity to sit 1 million people, currently hosts more than 2 million people.
2. The RCCG has over 250,000 in it's paid employment. Pastors, Administrators, Security Men/ Women, Nurses, Midwives, IT people, Media People, etc all over the globe majority of which are Nigerian residents.
3. The RCCG is committed to several corporate social responsibility causes. Health checks / Medicals, HIV/AIDS, Drug rehabilitation, Mental health / psycho rehabilitation, etc
4. Considering the wave of moral decadence and end time occurrences, the RCCG is a formidable church, raising an army of true believers, prepared for heaven. Just like a true parent, Pastor E A Adeboye mentors, however he can't be responsible for the choices some of his members make.
5. There are over 10 entrances to the redemption camp. The traffic situation is because the Ogun State government has failed 2 recognise the need for it to do it's own part in easing traffic by creating more road divisions/ diversions around that area. The RCCG single handedly tarred a diversion from the camp to a village in Shagamu.
6. Finally, Pastor Adeboye is a wealthy man of God. However, the RCCG is too big a mission not to have a system of accountability for church funds in place. The Man of God is even excited about retiring, Adeboye Money is different from RCCG Money.
