The Super Eagles of Nigeria snatched a 2-0 victory against the Flames of Malawi at the UJ Eusene Stadium in Calabar on Saturday.
It was Emmanuel Emenike who put Nigeria ahead late into the 1st half. The Malawians conceded another goal in the 51st minute when Victor Moses who was a thorn in the defence of Malawi team calmly slotted the penalty kick given to Nigeria after Nnamdi Oduamadi was brought down.
The Eagles failed to add to the tally amid numerous near misses. Mikel Obi was voted Man of the Match and the Eagles got $2,000 (N327, 000) for each goal scored aside their winning bonus of $5,000 (N817, 000).
With the victory, the Eagles finish top of Group F with 12 points and are now through to the play-off stage where the remaining 10 African countries in contention will be paired and will play themselves on home and away basis to determine the continent’s 5 flag bearers at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
