The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II, has bowed to the wishes of his subjects after 4 days of protest over his decision to renounce the title `Ogiame’. It appears he started what he could not finish after all.
He has withdrawn his decision to renounce the royal title, 'Ogiame', as well as abolish some ancient Itsekiri cultural practices based on his christian beliefs. This earlier decision was rejected by the Itsekiris and he was told to either withdraw the decision or abdicate the throne.
Meanwhile, the Itsekiri people and the aggrieved chiefs have pledged their unalloyed loyalty to their king for 'toeing the path of honour and withdrawing the decision to renounce his title'.
